Smithsonian
The Smithsonian Institute is composed of a few museums located in Washington, D.C. along the parkway, or the National Mall from the front of the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Memorial.
The first stamp on the second row of this album page shows the main or original building, the Smithsonian Castle, which was built in 1849 to 1855.
It’s a magnificant set of museums. I don’t generally like visiting museums, but the Smithsonian is very much an exception. It’s composed of twelve buildings and museums. I’ve visited several of them every time I’ve been to Washington since I was a child.
Note
There aren’t many stamps on this page, but I have all of them – which is always satisfying. There are few stamps on this page that have nice designs. First, I like the Smithsonian stamp on the second row. Similar in design and color is the first stamp on the fourth row, showing the painting, The Doctor by Sir Luke Fildes. The original painting is much better, though.
Contains 10 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.
