Disaster Relief
The Office of the U.N. Disaster Relief Coordinator (UNDRO) was established in 1971 to coordinate the response of member states during major emergencies and other disasters. This agency, though, was replaced at the end of 1991 by the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). In 1998, The Department of Humanitarian Affairs (DHA) was merged into OCHA, making it the main coordinator for all major disasters.
After these changes and mergers, OCHA became responsible coordinating humanitarian aid, as well as policies on development and humanitarian advocacy. This included managing humanitarian funding, policies, advocacy, and providing information to first-responders.
Note
The top two middle stamps have UNDRO written on them since they were printed in 1979, twelve years before that agency would end and be replaced with the OCHA.
The stamps on the third row commemorate the International Court of Justice. See the Intl. Court of Justice page in the New York album for more information on it.
The stamp at the bottom of the page was issued to celebrate the new country of Namibia. See the Namibia page for more on it.
