San Francisco
In 1944, near the end of World War II, the delegates from China, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States met outside Washington D.C. at a place called, the Dumbarton Oaks estate to discuss how to prevent future world wars. They ended by proposing the establishment of a general international organization to include as many nations of the world as possible and agreeable.
From April 25 until June 26, 1945, fifty nations, the members of the Allied Nations of World War II met in San Francisco, California. This meeting was known as the United Nations Conference on International Organization (UNCIO), but more commonly known as the San Francisco Conference. At that conference, they wrote the United Nations Charter, which is the basis of the United Nations.
The conference was held at various locations in the San Francisco area. It was held primarily in the War Memorial Opera House, which is shown on the blue stamp in the middle of this album page (i.e., third row, second stamp). The Charter was signed by all fifty countries, plus one late addition (i.e., Poland) at the Veteran’s Auditorium, now known as the Herbst Theatre. Both of these buildings are located in a public square, now known as the U.N. Plaza – a place I’ve visited.
Note
As you can see, I have all of the stamps on this album page except for the air mail ones. Recently, I purchased those from a stamp dealer in New York. They’re in transit to me in Milan.
Last time I ordered stamps from this store, the delivery was delayed by customs in Italy. They wanted more information about me and the shipment. It took over a month for me to get them. This time I tried to provide the details they want in advance. Hopefully, I’ll get them soon and this page will be completed.
Contains 11 spots: own 11 – 11 unused, 0 used.
