Rights of Children
The first two stamps on this album page are meant to promote UNICEF (see UNICEF) and the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is an international treaty on protecting and respecting the rights of children in the world.
Coming primarily from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (see Human Rights Decree), these rights are often grouped into three categories:
Provision: Children have the right to life, a healthy diet, health care, proper shelter, education, to recreation.
Protection: Children have the right to protection from discrimination, neglect, abuse, and exploitation, as well good a safe environment in which to live, learn, play, and generally grow – with adjustments for changes natural to their development.
Participation: Children have the right to participate and have input in communities in general, and communities particularly involving other children to include play and social skill development, as well as access to libraries, museums and other education facilities.
Note
The set of four stamps in the middle showing an impossible scene of many animals converged in a tight space living harmoniously, is promoting the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe in relation to the environment. That probably sounds confusing – which it is – so see Better Environment to understand better.
The two stamps on the sides of the set of nature stamps are reprints of two of the first stamps of the U.N. (see The Beginning) to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the U.N. Postal Administration.
The two outer stamps on the last row commemorate the new country of Namibia. See the Namibia, Africa page for more on it.
Contains 14 spots: own 14 – 14 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.
