Development Work
The U.N. Development Programme tries to help countries eliminate poverty by improving and stabilizing economic growth, as well as human development. Their goal is for these countries to become self-sufficient in their growth and prosperity. The UNDP was founded in 1965 and is funded by contributions from member states and is not part of the budget and expenditures of the U.N.
The agency has worked on improving sanitation and irrigation systems, energy programs, and other key aspects of developing countries. They’ve also been instrumental in a major reduction in small arms and other weapons in many countries to reduce greatly crime and violence. They were also involved in the prevention and treatment against the HIV/AIDS virus around the world. All of these factors can slow human and economic development and are therefore in keeping with their mandate.
The set of four stamps in center of this album page commemorate the U.N. Development Programme. They show examples of their impact on developing countries, including good farming methods and education on a proper diet.
Note
The two stamps at the top of this album page are meant to promote stamp collecting, in particular stamps issued by the U.N. Postal Administration. See the first page of the New York album for more on this – the The Beginning page.
The souvenir sheet at the bottom is in commemoration of the fortieth anniversary the World Federation of U.N. Associations. See the U.N. Associates page for more on it. Incidentally, this is a good size for a souvenir sheet. I wish all of them were similar size and layout.
Contains 10 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.
