Occupation - 20 Years
These stamps commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the occupation of the Aegean Islands by the Kingdom of Italy. They don’t say occupation, though. Italy thought of these as colonies and Italian territory with then Italian citizens. However, the residents were primarily Greek speaking people: basically, Greeks. Italy did try to transport some Italian citizens from the Italian peninsula and set them up with land and homes to try to convert the population. However, there weren’t many Italians that agreed to move there. They weren’t able to fully convert the local make-up and culture to Italian.
Note
I’m missing these main set of stamps from this page, but I have the air mail stamps at the bottom. I really don’t like the look of those air mail stamps. I don’t get the point of having a single black bird wing. Is it meant to represent flying, because nothing can fly with one wing like that? It looks more like a full-body feather fan for a stripper from the 1920s.
