Definitives
There’s not much more I can say about definitive stamps of king Vittorio Emanuele III, than what I already wrote on Page 7 of this album. This is the way usually with definitives: they’re interesting when you first see them, but after many years of them, they get boring.
Definitives do give a sense of comfort about them. There are a few U.S. definitive stamps of Thomas Jefferson and Franklin Roosevelt that I find nostalgic when I see them. I makes me long for the days when they were commonly used on envelops in the mail.
Regarding these definitives, these stamps, though, I don’t like overprints. At first glance, they look like they’re canceled or pre-canceled – even though the marking is neat and uniform. Still, I prefer they don’t do overprints. To save money and not waste stamps they’ve already printed, this seems to be what they used to do when there was a price change or when they had too many of a stamp for a particular need and not enough of another.
Note
I made slow progress towards completing this page, which is now finished. As I predicted, I’ve forgotten how long it took for me to get all of them. Still, it’s pleasing to see a page like this one with all unused stamps.
Contains 14 spots: own 14 – 14 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.
