Air Mail

Italian Colonies, Page EC-23 (GR-2)

As part of the promotion of Eritrea to the Italian public back on the peninsula, as well as instilling a sense of pride with the Eritrean people, these stamps depict various airplanes flying over what I suppose was common terrain in Eritea: there’s a scene with a plane flying over a Zebu plowing a field, through a mountaneous region, over large cacti, and palm trees, as well as a modern bridge. Supposedly, the airplanes shown were used at the time for transporting mail.

Note

This page is finished, but there’s plenty of space for another set of stamps. There aren’t any other sets to pull from another page, not unless I go back many pages in this album. I could grab the last set on the Italian Monuments page. I’d like to disburse those three sets. The last one is from 1930, while the ones on this page are from 1936. That’s pretty far apart in years. I might relocate this page right after the Eritrean Life page, which contain stamps from 1933, to balance out the issuance years.

Contains 10 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.
