Mussolini

Kingdom of Italy, Page M0 (GR-1)

In 1922, the Fascist Part of Italy, led by Benito Mussolini, went to Rome in large numbers. It was known as the March on Rome. The result was the prime minister of the time resigned and the king appointed Mussolini the new prime minister.

Mussolini and the Fascists ruled the Kingdom of Italy from that time until 1943 when he was removed from power by the King, followed by the Allied Forces conquering the lower half of the Italian peninsula.

Note

The stamps on the album pages that follow were issued from 1922 to 1940, during Mussolini’s rule, but before Italy joins the war with the Axis Powers (i.e., Germany). They don’t depict Mussolini – he’s shown in the first page for Axis Powers – but they do show some of the priorities and propaganda of the Fascists during these years.
