Micronesia
Federated States of Micronesia is an island nation in Micronesia, in the Pacific Ocean. It’s composed of over six hundred islands and has a tropical rainforest climate.
Starting in World War I, the Japanese military took control of these islands and many others in the region. During World War II, the U.S. drove out the Japanese and occupied the islands. Afterwards, they became part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, approved by the United Nations in 1947. The U.S. administered the islands until 1986 when they became an independent nation.
Marshall Islands is another island country in Micronesia, with over twelve-hundred islands and a bunch of coral atolls. About ninety-eight percent of their territory is ocean.
The Marshall Islands were also part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands and were administered by the U.S. after World War II. However, the U.S. conducted sixty-seven nuclear tests on two of their atolls, in the Bikini Islands from 1946 to 1958. In 1979, the Marshall Islands were given independence. The Republic of the Marshall Islands became a member of the U.N. in 1991, along with the Federated States of Micronesia.
