30th Anniversary

U.N. New York, Page 75.2 (BL-1)

This souvenir sheet was issued to celebrate the thirtiest anniversary of the United Nations. Several countries became members of the United Nations since the last souvenir sheet was issued in October 1970 for the twenty-fifth anniversary.

From Europe, the German Democratic Republic (i.e., East Germany) and the Federal Republic of Germany (i.e., West Germany) were both admited on the same day in 1973. From Asia, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Papua New Guinea became members. A few countries were added from the Middle East and the horn of Africa: Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and United Arab Emirates. Also from Africa, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, and Cabo Verde joined. From the Caribbean, Bahamas, Grenada, and Sao Tome and Principe became members.

Note

As I mentioned on the first page of this United Nations collection, I went to the U.N. office in New York when this souvenir sheeet was issued. I didn’t get it, but I did get the sheet version of these stamps. I don’t think I was aware that I could buy the souvenir sheet. I vaguely remember seeing it for sale in the glass case when I purchased other stamps, but I don’t think I knew it was a stamp. I also bought a shiny bronze coin commemorating the anniversary – I’m not sure where that is lately – so I didn’t have any money left for other purchases.

Contains 1 spots: own 1 – 1 unused, 0 used.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.
