Food for Life
The two large stamps at the bottom row commemorate the World Food Programme. The WFP is a U.N. organization that provides food and related assistance around the world. Based in Rome with offices in eighty-six other countries, it helps over one-hundred fifty million people all over the globe. When you see on the news the U.N. air dropping and deliverying food by other methods to critical and troubled countries, watch for the U.N. logo with the letters, WFP. That’s what you most often see them doing.
Besides emergency food relief, WFP provides assistance with helping countries to develop their own food resources for emergency situations. They also assist countries to manage better food production and farming supply chains and logisitics. Plus, it transports many humanitarian workers to troubled zones.
Note
The designs of these WFA stamps are very nice. I like the simple and elegant style. However, the ones on the top row are extraordinary. They’re basically photographs, but they are still good. I particularlly like one showing an egret. It’s spectacular.
