Caso

Occupations, Page CS-1 (GR-3)

The island of Caso, called currently Kasos, is located in the Aegian Sea, east of Crete with a population of a little more than a twelve-hundred people. It had over five thousand people in previous centuries.

Caso is part of the Dodecanese islands that were an Italian colony from about 1912 until 1947. These stamps are Italian stamps overprinted with Caso for use only on this island.

Note

For all of the Dodecanese islands, I have all of the stamps in the Garibaldi set and all of the stamps in the Ferrucci sets. Previously, I was missing from each island the red vertical stamp from the Ferrucci stamps, the Sassone 16 of each. It’s the most expensive of the set. All of the dealers I could find in Italy were selling them as a set, and wouldn’t see me the just one I needed. It’s frustrating. I hate to buy duplicate stamps. I have too many already. Fortunately, the dealer Mariotti in Milan sold me the ones I was missing at a good price.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
