Meridian
The top set of postage due stamps are overprinted, Somalia Italiana, Meridionale, which means, Italian Somalia, Meridian. Although it probably wasn’t necessary to add it, meridian means that the stamps are from the equator, or at least the equatorial region of the planet.
Three years later they produced another set of postage due stamps, the second set on this page. That time they didn’t put meridian on stamp. I guess they decided it wasn’t necessary, that if you knew where Somalia was, you knew it was near the equator. And if you didn’t know its location, you weren’t any more inspired to look at a map with the extra bit of information.
Note
I don’t have any of these postage due stamps yet. There are two and a half pages of postage due stamps for this Somalia album, six sets of postage due stamps for this one colony. Back-of-book stamps can be rarer and thereby more expensive. Having six sets to buy, though, is quite a lot. I don’t like blank pages like this one, but the number of postage due stamps required is an obstacle for me. It may be a while before I make a start on these pages, and especially to finish them.
