Peking
In ancient Greece, every four years they held athletic competitions among city-states at the Panhellenic religious sanctuary of Olympia. These ancient Olympic Games started in 776 b.c.e. During the games, a truce was declared to athletes and others could travel safely to the games. Among other things, the games promoted culture to other lands. This was very much in keeping with the mission of the United Nations. Incidentally, the Olympics were restarted with the first modern Olympic games were held in Athens in 1896.
Note
In 2008, China hosted the Olympics in Beijing. The stamps here, including the souvenir sheet commemorate those Olympic games.
