E-Mail

Italian Republic, Page 81.4 (GR-5)

From my experience, I’d say that email started becoming popular in the early 1980s. At least by the end of the 1980s it was widely used in Western countries like the U.S. and Italy. Email would lead to less frequent use of stamps for correspondences by businesses and the general population – eventually, they will probably no longer be issued. These stamps were issued as that era started to come about. It’s a good of a segretation of stamp album pages as any.

Note

During the last quarter of the Twentieth Century, like many other countries, Italy issued an excessive amount of stamps, more than was needed for mail service. They did so to sell stamps to collectors that would not be used – which was very profitable. Although many stamps at this time were too large for postcards and normal envelops, they seemed to have reasoned that larger stamps would be more appealing. I really don’t like stamps this size. Stamps should adhere to functionality. I also prefer less flashy stamps.
