Red Cross
Semi-postal stamps. are called this because part of the money for the cost of the stamp is used for the mailing of the letter. The other part of the cost is for a charity or some fund raising cause. On those stamps you’ll see two face amounts, separated by a plus sign. The first amount is for the postage; the additional amount is for the charity or special fund.
In the Italian kingdom, the Fascist Party often used semi-postal stamps for raising money for their causes. Very similar to semi-postal stamps was Semi-State Entities. They were bought in advance by the charity at a discount, and then resold by them for use as postage for the full rate. The charity kept the difference.
There were a few semi-postal stamps sold in the Aegean islands. However, I can’t imagine that the locals bought them since they probably resented becoming a colony of Italy – they were mostly Greeks – and probably weren’t wealthy and thereby wouldn’t want to spend money on charities in Italy, their oppressor. But these are my prejudices from a post-colonial period.
Note
Obviously, I have all of these stamps. The ones from the first set, are the same as the ones on the first page of this section (see Joining Kingdom) – but these are overprinted Pro assistenza Egeo (i.e., for the Aegean assistance – some sort of chartity).
Contains 10 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.

To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
