Valor Medal - Air Mail

Kingdom of Italy, Page 36 (GR-1)

These stamps are to commemorate the hundred years since the Military Order of Italy medal was reinstated by Carlo Alberto I in 1833. I’ve written more on the history of this medal on the previous page.

The stamps depict scenes of several soldiers fighting in Italy’s wars. I’m not sure if they’re showing specific soldiers, though. Most of them were used for ordinary postage. A few of them, though, were semi-postal stamps. In addition to the regular postal amount, there’s an additional charge which was used for some sort of chartiy – probably some pet project of the Fascist party of the time.

Note

This album page, as well as the previous one, was empty for a long time. But I bought recently the missing stamps on them. So now I have many completed pages in a row – about three dozen. Although I don’t care much for these stamps, that’s very satisfying.

Contains 9 spots: own 9 – 9 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.
