Red Coils

Colorful Years, Page A9-CP (RE-3)

The design of these stamps is simple. They’re in keeping with the new mid-modern graphic design style of the times. But I don’t like them. I like the color, but not the simple look. What was wrong with interesting stamps that tell a story? It’s like they didn’t want to spend money on an artist.

This was the time when printed bar-code postage was starting to be used. That was a sign that the use of stamps was beginning to end. It’s a long way away, but it’s coming. Next year, Denmark won’t be offering envelope delivery. Soon after, they’ll probably eliminate postage stamps. It won’t be long before other countries follow them. I hope that doens’t happen in my life time.

Note

These stamps are the same as the ones on the second row of the previous page. They really should be on the same page. There’s enough room. There’s also room to merge the two on the next page with them. Sparse pages like this one and the next are so dissatisfying. All three pages could be put together on just one page. Maybe I’ll do that one day, design my own page to replace these three.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
