Veneto & Mantova
Most of the stamps in this sub-album of Lombardia and Veneto depict in silhouette Franz Joseph I, King of Lombardy-Venetia, as well as Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. Because of him, born and lived most of his life in Vienna, stamps from this area have Germanic designs, German words, and the Austria royal crest.
Note
A few months ago I designed and printed the pages to this album of pre-Italy states. I started shopping for stamps for these pages and discovered the prices are higher than for stamps for the Kingdom of Italy and much higher than stamps from the Republic of Italy. So I hastily decided for this album just to buy used ones. I bought the two used ones on the bottom row of this page, and a few others elsewhere. Since then, though, I’ve been bidding on stamps at auctions and have gotten some at good prices. Now I wish I hadn’t bought any used ones. But they’re alright for now. I’ll replace them after I have many more of the empty spots filled with new stamps.
Contains 13 spots: own 5 – 4 unused, 1 used.
