Snowy Egret
Snowy Egret is a long necked shore bird found along most of coast and inlets of the U.S., and all over Mexico, Central America, and South America – but not in the moutains, so not in many parts of Chile. They feed on small fish, crayfish and small crabs, insects, worms, frogs, lizards, and even small snakes. So they’re anywhere there’s water and wildlife.
In Louisiana where I’m from originally, you’ll see them in the bayous, along the shores of the lakes, and in the drainage canals – much of the New Orleans area is below sealevel. They’re a quiet bird, often strutting slowly along the shore with their feet in the mud, stalking prey. They’re a beautiful and elegant bird when they display their plumage during mating time, but usually they look lanky and awkward to me. Basically, they look good when they’re looking for a mate.
Note
All of these stamps are well done. The artwork is great. They make you wish you had plenty of letters to send out – many pen pals with whom to write. It’s difficult to choose about which bird or animal to describe. I picked one for now since I have so many pages to fill. I may add another one or two later.
