Postage Due
In 1934, the Italian post office produced a new post-due stamp design: see the Postage Due page in the Kingdom album. Some of those stamps had fasces on them, the Fascist Party symbol – the ones with the crest, not the coat-of-arms. Rather than make a new design, in 1945 after the Fascists were removed from power, they reprinted them but with the coat-of-arms image on each denomination. They also changed the perforation, slightly.
There was one other change. The old ones have a watermark in the shape of crown. The new postage due stamps have a watermark with a wheel and Mercury the messenger wing attached. They were issued in December 1945. Maybe they were predicting the end of the monarchy, which occured in the following May.
Note
This page is the last of this stamp album – or it was until I added the next two pages, which were in an album by themselves. This page, though, is complete with unused stamps. Previously, it was nice to end with a full, clean page like this. But now that I added two more pages to this album, it’s ending with an empty page.
Contains 24 spots: own 24 – 24 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.
