Natl. Republican Guard
❦ Priority Page ❦
After Germany established the Italian Social Republic with Mussolini as its head, a new military structure was needed. Italian troops who were loyal to Mussolini, local police and Carabinieri, and any other gun-carrying forces in Northern Italy were joined together into what was then called, the National Republican Guard – Guardia Nazionale Repubblicana in Italian.
Stamps used by this new militia were overprinted with the letters, GNR – as you see on this page and the subsequent pages of this sub-album.
Note
This is a priority page. That means it’s one that I’ve been looking often for the stamps I’m missing, giving them priority with my spending when I do find them. They’re not easy to find. When I do find one, it’s usually at an auction and I’m not always successful at bidding for it – instead, someone pays much more than I’m willing to spend.
You can see that I have bid on one for an upcoming auction (catalog 483). There are two others that I’m missing. I’ve been looking for over a year now. It’s part of the fun: a story of my own behind every page and every stamp. There are only a few more stamps before I have all of the stamps for my Kingdom of Italy album and my Italy in Transition album. It’ll be a while before I complete the Italian Colonies and especially the Occupations. For the Republic of Italy albums, I’m missing only a couple of stamps for the pages I have, which is up the end of 2009.
Contains 20 spots: own 18 – 18 unused, 0 used.

Footnotes
Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).
Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.
Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.
To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
