Regno d’Italia

Occupations, Page FO6 (GR-3)

As mentioned at the start of this sub-album, Yugoslavia absorbed most of the Free State of Fiume on March 16 1924, the inland parts known as Fiumano-Kupa. Whereas Italy, under Mussolini, took over the city of Fiume and the port. These stamps aver overprinted, Regno d’Italia – the reign of Italy. That was meant to signify that Fiume at this point was officially part of the Kingdom of Italy – not on a brief temporary basis as they were in 1920 to 1921.

The first row of stamps depict a Venetian ship since many such ships came to the Fiume port over the centuries. The second row of stamps shows the gate of the city entering from the ancient road to Rome. The third row depict Saint Vitus the patron saint of Fiume. The last row of stamps show a Rostral column, a naval victory column from ancient Roman times.

Note

I ordered these stamps recently from a dealer in Rome. After weeks of researching and designing these album pages, it’s nice to have completed pages.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
