Development Program
The U.N. Development Programme tries to help countries eliminate poverty by improving and stabilizing economic growth, as well as human development. Their goal is for these countries to become self-sufficient in their growth and prosperity. The UNDP was founded in 1965 and is funded by contributions from member states and is not part of the budget and expenditures of the U.N.
The agency has worked on improving sanitation and irrigation systems, energy programs, and other key aspects of developing countries. They’ve also been instrumental in a major reduction in small arms and other weapons in many countries to reduce greatly crime and violence. They were also involved in the prevention and treatment against the HIV/AIDS virus around the world. All of these factors can slow human and economic development and are therefore in keeping with their mandate.
The set of four stamps in center of this album page commemorate the U.N. Development Programme. They show examples of their impact on developing countries, including irritation and sanitation systems, as well as agricultural improvements.
Note
Although they may be a little cartoonish, I still like the set of four stamps in the middle, the ones commemorating the U.N. Development Programe. I also like the two stamp collecting ones at the top, and the souvenir sheet at the bottom. I’m glad Leuchtturn didn’t put it on a separate page like it does with other souvenir sheets.
