During most of World War II, Italy was a member of the Axis Powers, on Germany’s side, with Benito Mussolini as the prime minister. After the Allies, the U.K. and the U.S., had conquered the Italian colonies and Sicily in July 1943, Mussolini went to Rome to meet with the King to discuss the situation. At the same time, while he was away the Grand Council of Fascism voted to remove Mussolini as prime minister. At the same time, the next day, unaware of the Council’s action, the King had Mussolini arrested and removed him from power. He appointed a new Prime Minister and began negotiating a surrender to the Allies..
Although the King surrendered, the northern half of Italy was still occupied with German troops. In September 1943, the Germans managed to rescue Mussolini from prison. Using him, they established the Italian Socialist Republic with Mussolini as the head of the new government. Their headquarters was in the north, in Brescia along Lake Garda.
Note
This page is slowly filling in. I’ve been finding them for sale, one at a time – per order. I don’t mind that. Since there aren’t many on this page, it won’t take long to complete. It’s just a matter of being on the look out for new listings, monitoring the sites of local stamp dealers – as well as auctions. I have a bid pending for one at an upcoming auction in Milan.
Contains 12 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.

To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
