Lipso
The island of Lipso, called currently Leipsoi, is located in the Aegian Sea, on the northwest end of the Dodecanese islands. It’s one of the smallest of these islands, with a population of about eight-hundred people. Like the other Dodecanese islands, it was an Italian colony from about 1912 until 1947.
These stamps are Italian stamps for use only on this island. The definitives were overprinted with Lipso. The Garibaldi commemoratives were also overprinted with Lipso, which the Ferrucci stamps were overprinted, Lisso.
Note
One of the dealers in northern Italy has a large inventory and is good about selling individual stamps. I bought quite a few stamps for the first page of each of the Dodecanese island definitive pages. At this point, I have and am missing the same for each. Since the prices varied with what I’m missing and since they didn’t have all of them, when my order from them arrives, these pages will no longer seem so identical – at least not until I get all of the ones I’m missing. Unfotunately, this particular dealer isn’t too quick on filling orders, nor do they always provide tracking information when they ship them. So I’m not sure when I’ll get the stamps I bought.
