Javier Perez de Cuellar
Javier Pérez de Cuéllar was the fifth Secretary General of the United Nations. He was born in 1920 in Peru and studied law. When the U.N. held its first General Assembly, he was a delegate from Peru. He served on the U.N. Security Council in the early 1970s, with one term as council president. In 1982, he was elected Secretary General for his first term. Five years later he was re-elected unanimously for a second term, serving for a total of ten years, from 1982 to 1991.
Note
The stamps on the album pages in this section of my collection of United Nations stamps were issued while Javier Perez de Cuellar was the Secretary General. There may be some stamps that were issued before and after his departure because that’s how the stamps on the album pages are layed out by Leuchtturm. I don’t want to create my own printed album pages for that overlapping period. As they are now is close enough for me.
