Protect Rainforests

U.N. Vienna, Page UNV-98.3 (BL-3)

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a U.N. agency that focuses on international public health. It was established in 1948, succeeding the Health Organization of the League of Nations along with a couple of other international agencies. It wasn’t until 1951, though, when it received a significant amount of financial support and other resources, that it started becoming effective.

The purpose of the WHO is to promote health and safety around the world. It sets health standards, monitors world health issues, and provides a forum for world health discussions. Related to that, it’s believed scientists that the many species of plants and animals in the rainforests may be a source of future pharmaceuticals that could cure many current and yet unknown illnesses. If for that reason alone, we need to protect our rainforests.

Note

The stamp at the bottom of the page is the same design as the one in the souvenir sheet, except that the face amount is different. The design shows an ocelot, which are found in the rainforests of South and Central America. Incidentally, I like this souvenir sheet and the design of the single stamp.

Contains 2 spots: own 2 – 2 unused, 0 used.

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
