Cape Hatteras

Colorful Years, Page 89/90 (RE-2)

The national park, Cape Hatteras is part of Hatteras Island, one of the barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina. It has a sandy beach with many water and shore birds: piping plovers, Wilson’s plovers, American oystercatchers, black skimmers, American white ibises, eastern willets, and many others. Also, sea turtles lay eggs along the shore. So later in the year when they hatch, there are many battle turtles emerging and making their way into the ocean. Cape Hatteras is quite a paradise in its own right.

This album page has a few other stamps celebrating some other national parks. The first one is shows Wolf Trap Farm for performing arts in Fairfax, Virginia. The second one shows a geysur in Yellowstone national park in Wyoming. The third one is of Mount McKinley in Alaska.

Note

What a beautiful set of stamps, the four small stamps for Cape Hatteras. I’ve never been there, but those stamps make me wish to visit it some day. If you separate them, they’re not as nice. Normally, when there are four stamps, the face value of each one would be the cost of mailing an enevelope, which was eight cents at that time. Since these stamps are each two-cents and given their size, all four of them together could be used on an envelope – preserving their attractiveness.
