United Nations

By the way, I bought the stamp shown here in 1975 when I went with my parents to New York for a few days. We saw my first broadway play (Shenandoah), went to the top of the Empire State building, and visited the United Nations headquarters.

I was in such awe of the U.N.: people from all over the world; the general assembly room with ear pieces to listen to speeches in different languages, etc. There was also a post office there where I bought this stamp and began my collection of U.N. stamps.

This is a new album on my site. I’ve had these stamps for a long time, but have only recently bought album pages for them – for some of them. The United Nations issued stamps from New York, Geneva and Vienna. So far, I have pages posted here only for New York. I have stamps for the other locations, but not the pages yet. In the past I used stock books, not album pages. But I’m switching to printed album pages from Lighthouse publishing.

New York

These stamps were issued from the main location of the U.N. in New York. They started issuing stamps in 1951. The stamps stamps in this album are from 1951 until 1999. I’ll get the remaining album pages, later.

Geneva

This album is for stamps issued from the U.N. offices in Geneva, Switzerland – starting in 1969. I haven’t yet bought the album pages for this album. This is a placeholder for that album until I have it. I have many of these stamps, starting from about 1980. This album includes album pages from that time until the end of 1999. I’ll add more album pages and stamps, later.

Vienna

These stamps were issued from the U.N. offices in Vienna, Austria. They started issuing them from this new location in 1979. Like the other albums for this collection, I have the album pages from the start until the end of 1999, although I already have many of the stamps beyond that time.
