Bobcat
Bobcats is a wild cat found in North America. It’s named for its unique stubby or bobbed tail. It’s one four types of Lynx, but the smallest of the genus. They get to be from two to over four feet long, and have pointed ears and tuffs of hair below their cheeks. They can be seen in urban areas, but given it’s size and distinctive features, you shouldn’t mistake a bobcat for a domesticated ferral cat: you never should try to pet a bobcat.
Since I’m allergic to cats, I don’t like them as pets and hate being in someone’s home who has a cat. However, I do like the larger, non-domestic cats like bobcats and ocelots – as well as tiger and other big cats. They’re so beautiful and graceful – and not inside anyone’s home.
Another reason I think I like bobcats is because of memories when I was in Cub Scouts. The first rank you earn as a boy after joining is the Bobcat badge. I thought it was so neat looking. I didn’t want to advance to Weeblos because I liked the Bobcat so much. I did advance and went on to Boy Scouts.
Note
For a definitive stamp, this stamp of a bobcat is rather large. I guess if you’re paying two dollars for a stamp, it should be large and nice looking like this one. Maybe because fewer of these were printed since it has a higher denomination, but it took me many months to find one of these stamps for sale on-line. When it was issued in 1990, I wasn’t doing anything with my stamp collection. So I missed the chance to buy this stamp and many others from this period at a post office.
