Family Year
The year 1994 was declared the International Year of the Family by the U.N. This was part of the United Nations Family Programme, which was a component or project of the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
At that time, according to documents from that agency, activities were to be undertaken on five main themes: family policy development; technology and its impact on the family; parental roles and intra-familial support systems; indicators of family well-being; and HIV/AIDS and its impact on families. Again, this was in 1994 when AIDS was a major health problem at the time.
Note
The two outer stamps on the first row were issued to promote the International Year of the Family. The stamp between them is mean to bring attention to the need to protect refugees. See the Protect Refugees page in the New York album for more information.
The stamps on the third row of this page are related to the International Conference on Ppulation and Development held in Cairo in 1994. The conference sought to shape an international understanding that concerns related to population growth should be part of all economic, political, and environmental discussions and plans.
The stamps at the bottom of the page are related to the U.N. Trade and Development organization. See the earlier album page on Trade & Development for more on this.
Contains 10 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.
