Aging

U.N. New York, Page 93.1 (BL-1)

In the early 1980s, the U.N. began discussions on aging. This led to the publishing in 1982 of the International Plan on Ageing. In this document, several principles were determined for better treatment of the elderly, and a greater benefit of society. First, it was decided that older people should have their independence – instead of being pushed into controled environments. Second, that the elderly should be permitted and encouraged to participate in society – instead of being ignored and foregoing their wisdom. Third, they should be provided with needed care, especially such care particularly to aging. Fourth, they should be allowed to seek fulfilment in their lives. Last and perhaps most important, the elderly should be treated with dignity and have the same rights as all adults.

The two outer stamps on the first row are meant to promote the principles of the international plan on aging, in particular the principles of respecting the diginity of the elderly, and allowing and encouraging their participation in society.
