Sea Planes

Italian Colonies, Page LY-8 (GR-2)

For deliverying the mail by air, the Italian government used a few different airplanes. These air mail stamps show some of them flying over scenes in the region. A few of the stamps seem to be of a Savoia-Marchetti seaplane, maybe the S.55 or the S.71. The two on the second row at the end, and others flying over the desert, might be a Caproni Ca.133 airplane. It’s difficult to be sure unless you know Italian aircraft well.s

Note

This page is missing just the set of four air mail stamps. They’re not very expensive. I just haven’t found them for sale any where – plus I have a limit to how much I can spend each month for stamps. I’ve checked the sites of my favorite dealers and a few auctions. It may be a while before I find them.

Contains 12 spots: own 12 – 12 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
