Inter-Govt. Maritime
In 1958, the International Maritime Organization began. Its headquarters are in London, England. The bottom two stamps on this album page commemorate the organization.
The IMO is responsible for regulating international transportation, includes maritime safety, environmental concerns, legal siutations, and other related issues. One-hundred seventy-five U.N. member states have joined the organization and ratified the Convention on the International Maritime Organization.
Note
In addition to the IMO stamps, another interesting stamp is the one at the top. It’s related to the U.N. Temporary Executive Authority over West New Guinea (see album pages, West New Guinea and West New Guinea). This stamp shows a map of West New Guinea, with a bridge overhead – perhaps to symbolize the U.N. protection provided during that period, or maybe to symbolize the role the U.N. played in bridging the gap between colonial rule and independence, or rather their joining Indonesia.
Contains 9 spots: own 9 – 9 unused, 0 used.
