Liberty Souvenir
The International Philatelic Exhibition of 1956 was held in New York city. This was the fifth such exhibit that’s held once every ten years. It was held on this occasion at the New York Coliseum.
The Coliseum was located at Columbus Circle and had just opened. It’s no longer there: it close in 2000. The building was one of Robert Moses’ projects, the famous power broker who was responsible for many public buildings and bridges in and around New York – who was the subject of the movie, Motherless Brooklyn.
Besides talks and presentations, these philatelic shows included exhibits of rare stamps and a room for dealers to offer stamps for sale. Usually, a new stamp is released for the first day and only at the exhibition. In this case two were sold there: this souvenir sheet; and the purple stamp of the New York Coliseum on the previous page, at the end of the top row.
Note
Besides the souvenir sheet, this page has space allocated for copies of the stamps cut out of the souvenir sheet. I complain about that on a earlier album page (see James Oglethorpe). I’m not sure why Leuchtturn does that. I think it’s enough to have the souvenir sheet. At least this time they’re all on the same page. They could have put the stamp of the New York Coliseum on this page since they’re related, but that might have looked awkward.
Contains 3 spots: own 3 – 3 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.

To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
