Parcel Post

Italy in Transition, Page PP 3 (GR-1)

There are the same stamps that were used for packages by the Kingdom (see Parcel Post), except that they were overprinted with the text, Rep. Soc. Italiana – which is Repubblica Sociale Italiana (i.e., Italian Socialist Republic), abbreviated. I seem to remember that stamps at this time were printed in Torino, which is in the north and would have been part of the RSI territory. That would make it easy for them to print new stamps and overprint them. But what were they doing in the Kingdom? At some point printing was moved to Rome, but how did they get plates? Maybe they were previous printing in both cities and had already duplicated the plates.

Note

Having completed so many pages in the first album, I’m now able to give more attention and resources to this album. I bought recently several of these parcel post stamp pairs – the cheaper ones. I have more than half of this paged filled now. The ones that remain, though, aren’t as easy to find and are a little expensive. So, it’ll be a while before I complete this page.

Contains 13 spots: own 10 – 10 unused, 0 used.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
