Stampalia

Occupations, Page ST-2 (GR-3)
Occupations, Page ST-1 (GR-3)

The island of Stampalia, called also Astypalaia, is located in the Aegian Sea. It was considered part of the Dodecanese islands, but it’s more west of them. A better grouping for it is part of the Cyclades islands, of which Stampalia is located at the southeast end of them – and closer to those islands.

The island has a population of about fourteen-hundred people. Like the other islands in this zone, it was an Italian colony from about 1912 until 1947.

These are Italian stamps; they were for use only on this island during the time when the island was under the rule of the Kingdom of Italy. They were overprinted with Stampalia.

Note

I was able to complete the commemorative page here, and to order two of the four definitives I’m missing. I’ll only need two from the third row then. These last of the Dodecanese pages will be the most complete of this section.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
