Presidents

Bureau of Engraving, Page 46 (RE-1)

This series of stamps is not very attractive to me: I don’t like stamps with images of statue busts, and the colors are unappealing. The stamps are of all of the deceased Presidents at the time they were issued. The only two missing were Herbert Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt. Under U.S. law, a stamp cannot be issued for a living person and especially not for a incumbent. Hoover was still alive in 1938 and Roosevelt was the current president. The series also includes stamps for two people who weren’t President: Martha Washington, the first of the First Ladies; and Benjamin Franklin, the first Postmaster General. The denominations for them are half-cent amounts. There’s also another fractional one for the White House.

Note

This album page is full, in that I have all of the stamps. Until recently, one was used – the five-dollar stamp at the end of the last row. It took me a while to get it. Whenever I would put together an order of stamps, there were so many other stamps I wanted that are cheaper. So replacing that one wasn’t quick.

Contains 32 spots: own 32 – 32 unused, 0 used.
Page is finished.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
