20th Anniversary

U.N. New York, Page 65.1 (BL-1)

This souvenir sheet was issued to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the United Nations. Several countries became members of the United Nations since the last souvenir sheet was issued in October 1960 for the fifteenth anniversary. In fact, they added eighteen this time.

From Africa and the surrounding area, there were eleven countries admitted: Algeria, Kenya, Kuwait, Malawi, Malta, Mauritania, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania (Zanzibar), Uganda, and Zambia. From Asia, Burundi, Maldives. Mongolia, and Singapore joined. And from the Americas, there was Gambia (Republic of The), Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Note

The individual, sheet stamps to match these two stamps contained in this souvenir sheet are at the top of the next page. The theme on this year is the Co-Operation Year. That seems to be the on-going theme of the U.N. So I don’t know what was the point of declaring a particular year one of cooperation.

Contains 1 spots: own 1 – 1 unused, 0 used.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
