Palais de Chailot
The Palais de Chaillot is located in front of the Eifel Tower, across the river. The stamps on the last row of this album page should the palace, including part of the bridge that crosses the Seine River to the tower.
The Palais de Chaillot was built for the World Fair of 1937 in Paris. Before the building of the U.N. World Headquarters, which started in 1948, was finished in 1952, the U.N. General Assembly had to meet elsewhere. For the third assembley in 1948, and the sixth in 1951, they met at the Palais de Chaillot. It was also the temporary location of the NATO headquarters from 1952 to 1959.
Note
This is a rather dull set of stamps, design and color wise. You’re probably getting tired of reading these comments. You may be wondering why I collect U.N. stamps if I don’t find the very interesting looking. They get better, though. More importantly, I like the idea of the U.N., the works they do and what they attempt to do – although they may not always be as effective as they try to be.
