Patmos
The island of Patmos is located in the Aegian Sea, a few miles west of Rodi. It has today a population of a little more than three-thousand people. Like the other islands in this zone, it was an Italian colony from about 1912 until 1947.
The island is most notably known as where the writer of the biblical book, Revelations was written. It was written by John, one of the early followers of Jesus of Nazareth. Believed at one time to be the same John who was the youngest of the first apostles and the writer or rather teacher of the Gospel of John, he’s now believed to be someone else with the same name. He’s referred to as John of Patmos.
These stamps are Italian stamps for use only on this island. The definitives were overprinted with Patmos. The commemorative stamps were overprinted, Patmo – which is more of an Italian spelling (i.e., Italian words tend to end with vowels).
Note
I bought one of the four definitive stamps I’m missing for this island. That will complete the second row, which is always nice. It’s like a slow version of Tetris. The other three will take a good more time, though. There aren’t too many dealers selling these and they don’t have the ones I need now.

Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
