Hitler & Mussolini
The top set of stamps here are a little difficult to see since they were overprinted with the words, Zona Occupata Fiumano Kupa – in addition to the initials for the same words printed a few times on the edges. Underneath, though are images of Benito Mussolini from Italy and Adolph Hitler from Germany.
Italian-German Brotherhood
As strange as it may seem, Adolph Hitler was inspired by Benito Mussolini. Mussolini was a journalist and had written much about his ideals related to nationalism, pride and strength within one’s country. In the midst of the misery of the Great Depression, it was an attractive banner to rally around.
These stamps, though, are so ridiculous and interesting to me. They seem to celebrate the bromance between Mussolini and Hiter. I’m not sure why Hitler is on the left and Mussolini is on the right. Since they’re Italian stamps, Mussolini should be first. But maybe he had a blemish or scar on his right cheek and didn’t want to publicize it.
Note
The Hiter and Mussolini stamps are a little expensive. It may be a while before I get them. The set at the bottom weren’t too bad. I’m happy to have them. I’m not sure why the last stamp on the bottom row was overprinted with the word, Memento Avdere Semper – Remember Always in English. I need to reserch that. Maybe it was a fairwell message from the Italian post office: meaning, Don’t Forget Us.
