Nature
The Bald Eagle is native to North America. It’s a bird of prey that feeds primarily on fish. It searches for fish by flying over a large body of water. When it spots one close to the surface, it swoops down at a high speed and snatches the fish with its powerful talons. Its nests are huge: a few feet wide and deep, weighing hundreds of pounds, sometimes up to a ton.
Because of the use of pesticides starting in the 1940s, the species was endangered of extinction – if not completely, at least from many parts of North America. They were put on the endangered species list in the late 1960s, early 1070s. This is why they were included in this set of stamps, to make the public aware of their situation – and perhaps to say that they may end like the dinosaurs. With the banning of pesticides, though, the Bald Eagle recovered and was removed in 2008 from the endangered species list.
Note
The set of four stamps at the top are very well designed and attractive. I’ve always liked them. I don’t think I could ever use them for postagek, though, had I bought them at the post office. I don’t care much for the conservation stamps or the Christmas toy stamps. They’re unappealing to me.
Contains 12 spots: own 12 – 12 unused, 0 used.
