Air Transports

U.N. Geneva, Page UNG-97.1 (BL-2)

The set of stamps in the middle showing modes of transportation over past two centuries, were issued to celebrate progress in transportation. They are also meant to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of two regional commisssions of the U.N. Economic & Social Commmision. The ECOSOC is a forum for talks related to international economic and social issues.

The two regional commissions being celebrated are the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe and the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. Both regionals have been working on improving transportation with member states in their purview.

Note

The set of four stamps showing birds and other animals is relaetd to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). You can read more on this and see other stamps in this series on the Endangered Species Trade page of this album.

The two stamps on the last row commemorate stamp collecting – in particular collecting U.N. stamps. They show stamps from about eleven years before, from 1986. I don’t like stamps that celebrate stamp collecting and depict older stamps on them. But these two are worse. These stamps show stamps from 1986 (see earlier page) commemorating stamp collecting. One even shows a collector examining yet another stamp.

Contains 13 spots: own 13 – 13 unused, 0 used.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.
