Children Should Live

U.N. Vienna, Page UNV-85.1 (BL-3)

The last two stamps on the second row are stamps promoting UNICEF (see UNICEF) and the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is an international treaty on protecting and respecting the rights of children in the world.

Coming primarily from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (see Human Rights Decree), one of these rights is the that all children have a right to live – hence the caption on the two stamps here. For more of these rights, see Child Rights.

The stamps in this series depict scenes in which children are being given these rights: proper health care and protected by a parent in these two stamps. On the U.N. University page of the New York album you can see two more stamps at the bottom of the album page showing children being fed, their right to a healthy diet. On this U.N. University page of the Geneva album you can see two more, one depicting children at school.

Note

The stamp at the top of the page shows the International Training Centre in Torino, Italy. It’s a facility of the International Labour Organization (see Intl. Labor Organization in the New York album).

The stamps on the third line show part of two paintings by Andrew Wyeth. They commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the U.N. You can read more about on the next page where there’s a souvenir sheet containing the same stamps.

The last stamp on this album page commemorates the U.N. University. You read more about that on the U.N. University page of the New York album.

Contains 8 spots: own 8 – 8 unused, 0 used.

Footnotes

  • Spot refers to the postion of the stamp on the album page (e.g., 3.2 indicates row 3, position 2).

  • Amt. is an abbreviation for the face amount of the stamp.

  • Own indicates the stamp status: ✓ for unused; ✗ for used or canceled; ⭑ signifies I ordered one; ; ✨ indicates it was bought recently; ✠ means an auction bid is pending; and ◎ is used, and it costs too much for unused.

  • To search by catalog number, go to the search box and enter it in the catalog number box. However, it’s a bit broken; I need to fix it.
