Poverty
Poverty is more than low or no income. It includes hunger and malnutrition and limited access to education and other basic services. It comes with social discrimination and exclusion. When these stamps on ending poverty were issued, more than seven-hundred million people lived in poverty: about ten percent of the world population was living in extreme poverty and lacking the most basic needs like health, education, and access to water and sanitation.
Ending poverty in all its forms is the first of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The main goal is to “ensure significant mobilization of resources from a variety of sources, including through enhanced development cooperation, in order to provide adequate and predictable means for developing countries, in particular least developed countries, to implement programmes and policies to end poverty in all its dimensions.” This includes also “ensuring that by 2030 all people have equal rights to economic resources, access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology and financial services, including microfinance.”
Note
The top two stamps, the ones on the first row of this album page promote the goal of ending poverty in the world. As for design, though, I like the middle one on the second row. I like this wide-screen format and the images with them. This one is related to the victims of the Holocaust. There are pairs at the top of the Food Day page, and the Food is Life page, and the Food for Life page that have the same format and similar design. I find them appealing.
Contains 9 spots: own 9 – 9 unused, 0 used.
