Mothers & Children
On the middle set of stamps on this page, the stamps have text that reads, Ndihme per luftimin antituberkular, which means Assistance for the fight against tuberculosis. During the Italian occupation of Albania, the government introduced structured public health and fundraising mechanisms modeled after Italy’s anti-TB programs.
In April 1943, the occupation government issued a dedicated, mandatory surcharge series of Anti-Tuberculosis Fund stamps. This functioned as a charitable and public health tax in which the extra funds from postal services went directly toward building basic isolation wards, funding dispensaries, and providing care for poor patients.
Note
When I first set up the web page for these stamps, I thought that the woman shown in the middle set of stamps was supposed to be a mother caring for her child who has tuberculosis. I now know that she’s meant to be a nurse. I didn’t recognize the garments she was wearing as that. So I need to change the title of this page.
Contains 15 spots: own 0 – 0 unused, 0 used.
