T.S. Eliot
Thomas Stearns Eliot was an American British poet and playwright from the first half of the Twentieth Century. His writings are said to have influenced many writers and songwriters: James Joyce, Ezra Pound, Virginia Woolf, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bob Dylan, and others.
He won a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948, for his literary work, in particular for a set of four poems he wrote called, Four Quartets. They’re basically meditations on the historical, physical, and spiritual nature of time related to humans. Each poem is associated with one of four elements: earth, air, water, and fire.
Note
Although I’ve heard of T.S. Eliot, I don’t think I’ve read anything he wrote. I have heard quotes from a few of his poems: “This is the way the world ends, Not with a bang but a whimper”; “Sometimes things become possible if we want them bad enough”; “Most of the evil in this world is done by people with good intentions”; and “Humankind cannot bear very much reality”.
As a writer, I should read his works – as least some of the more significant poems. This why I’m writing the text for these web pages – rather than copy someone else’s text or using an artificial intelligence application – to learn more about U.S., U.N. and Italian history, the people involved, and other things. And I do it to be inspired to learn more and to improve my writing skills.
